OUR STORY
I Was Never Meant to Follow the Rules
The story behind Cleopatra's World — and the women who taught me that being different was never something to apologize for.

I was never the kind of little girl who did what she was told.
Not because I wanted to be difficult. Well, maybe a little.
But mostly because, even as a child, I could never understand why being a girl came with so many rules.
I grew up in an Armenian family, in a world where girls were often expected to be sweet, polite, beautiful, and obedient. You were encouraged to learn how to cook, believe in God, behave yourself, and eventually find a husband. Preferably a wealthy one.
And if you were lucky, you would grow up to become a good wife.
I remember thinking: Is that really all we're supposed to want?
Because I wanted so much more.
A Little Girl With a Mind of Her Own
I loved short skirts, even when people thought they were inappropriate. I climbed trees, played football, stayed out late, and insisted on sitting in the front seat of taxis.
I loudly announced that I was an atheist, in a world where saying such a thing was practically an act of rebellion.
I had no interest in impressing boys or dreaming about my future wedding. I wanted to study. I wanted to learn. I wanted to become someone on my own terms.
And I had opinions.
Lots of them.
I was stubborn, outspoken, curious, and completely uninterested in becoming the version of a girl that society seemed to prefer.
While many of my friends were forbidden from doing the things I did, I was given something incredibly precious.
Freedom.
The Two Queens Who Raised Me
I grew up without my father from around the age of six.
But I was never without strong role models.
My mother and grandmother were the two women who raised me, protected me, and shaped the person I would become.
To me, they were everything that powerful women should be: intelligent, resilient, independent-minded, and strong enough to face a world that wasn't always kind to women.
They gave me room to explore, question, disagree, and make my own choices.
And for that, I will always be grateful.
Of course, knowing my personality, I'm not entirely sure they could have stopped me even if they'd tried.
But the fact that they didn't try to make me smaller is something I will never forget.
They taught me something far more valuable than how to fit in.
They taught me that I didn't have to.
The Day I Met Cleopatra
One day at school, during a history lesson, we learned about Cleopatra.
And something about her story stayed with me.
Here was a woman who had lived thousands of years before me, in a world where power was overwhelmingly associated with men.
Yet she had become one of the most fascinating rulers in history.
What captivated me wasn't the idea that she was the most beautiful woman in the world. In fact, I remember learning that her greatest strength wasn't necessarily her beauty.
It was her intelligence.
She was educated, politically ambitious, multilingual, and determined to hold on to power in a world of powerful men.
She was strategic. She was bold. She refused to be ordinary.
And I loved that.
I also loved the image of Cleopatra that had captured my imagination: dark, glossy hair, dramatic eyes, beautiful jewelry, and an unmistakable presence.
The dark hair felt familiar. The cat-eye makeup? I was already obsessed.
And the gold, the colors, the jewelry?
That was a whole other love story.
For the first time, I saw a woman from history who represented so many things I admired.
Beauty without obedience. Intelligence without apology. Power without permission.
I didn't want to be Cleopatra because she was a queen.
I admired her because she seemed to embody something I had always believed:
A woman should be free to decide who she wants to become.
More Than a Love for Jewelry
Years passed, but I never forgot that history lesson.
My love for beautiful things grew with me. I have always been drawn to color, bold details, striking jewelry, and the way a single accessory can completely change how someone looks and feels.
But Cleopatra's World was never meant to be just about jewelry.
It grew from something much more personal.
From the little girl who questioned every rule.
From the teenager who refused to be quiet.
From the mother and grandmother who showed me what real strength looks like.
And from a queen whose story reminded me that intelligence, ambition, femininity, and power never have to compete with one another.
To me, jewelry is not about becoming more beautiful for someone else's approval.
It's about expression.
It's about wearing something because you love it.
Because it makes you feel confident, bold, elegant, playful, powerful — or simply more like yourself.
You can be intelligent and love makeup.
You can be independent and love beautiful jewelry.
You can be ambitious, outspoken, stubborn, feminine, and completely unapologetic about all of it.
You don't have to choose.
Welcome to Cleopatra's World
I created Cleopatra's World for women who have never felt the need to fit into someone else's definition of who they should be.
For women who love beauty but refuse to be defined by it.
For women who have opinions, ambitions, contradictions, dreams, and the courage to be themselves.
And especially for the little girls who are still being told to sit quietly, behave nicely, and dream a little smaller.
I hope they grow up knowing they are allowed to want more.
I hope they find women who encourage them to be fearless, just as my mother and grandmother did for me.
And I hope they discover that being different is not something they need to overcome.
Sometimes, it's the very thing that makes them powerful.
Cleopatra's World is my love letter to those women.
And to the rebellious little girl I once was.
She never wanted to follow the rules. So she decided to create her own world.
